Biondi-Santi is the winery that created Brunello di Montalcino, and its Riserva was first produced in 1888, the parent vintage of the entire appellation. Since then, Biondi-Santi has released the Riserva only 41 times, in particularly exceptional vintages. Renowned for its extraordinary longevity, this wine is considered the most classic expression of Brunello di Montalcino. Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 1990 "La Storica" - Generous and persistent expression The decidedly dry and warm weather of 1990 gave this Riserva a particularly elegant and structured character. Notes of ripe red fruit and underbrush, giving way to hints of tobacco, are supported by an extraordinary acidity, hinting at surprising longevity. It is perfect when paired with aged cheeses, truffle or porcini mushroom dishes, and roasted red meats. This wine can be enjoyed as a "treat" at the end of dinner in the company of a good cigar.
